This obviously isn't a book about genealogy.  It is a book about Steps 4 and 5 in the program of recovery defined by the First Edition of the book Alcoholics Anonymous.  The author believes that approaching these steps using an "engineering approach" rather than writing and dumping offers a proven method for gaining freedom from the wreckage of the past.  He also believes it facilitates identifying a path forward in life that will help insulate those in recovery from repeating their past mistakes.

The author does not claim to be an expert in any twelve-step program.  What he does claim is that the process he has outlined - the one he used and continues to use for Steps Four and Five - worked miracles in his life and may do the same in yours.
